Storyline Online: A Reading Tool
There are many great resources on the internet to engage students in reading. One of these great resources is Storyline Online. The website offers beautiful picture books being read aloud with animations by famous actors and actresses. Some of the books that can be viewed are The Rainbow Fish, Library Lion, A Bad Case of Stripes, Clark the Shark, Strega Nona (my class love this story) and Wilfred Gordon McDonald Patridge.
Storyline Online is a great resource to use in classrooms as it offers students the learning opportunity to hear what effective reading, expression, volume and tone and fluent reading sounds like. Students not only need to know and learn how to read but also need to have opportunities to hear good readers.
Storyline Online can be used as a Reading or Literacy Group rotation, integrated into Literacy blocks with comprehension questions or simply as a brain break or during fruit break.
Storyline Online offers an engaging platform for students to hear what good reading sounds like, provides a chance for them to discuss what they have heard and can develop confidence to read themselves.
I have used this resource since I started teaching and have always found it to be a great way to engage students to love reading.
If you have not checked out the site make sure you do. Your students will love you for it!
